On departing earth, Jesus gives a primordial command to all believers, not just religious leaders:
Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News to all of creation (Mark 16).
The proclamation is universal:
Not just to human beings, but angels, too, I imagine. I gather cats and dogs, birds and bats, crocodiles and alligators are included, along with inanimate matter.
Why? Creation comes from God and is moving towards God.
Notice the signs accompanying the proclamation:
Devils are cast out. Believers speak with the gift of tongues and are protected from evil. The sick are healed by the laying on of hands.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ has entered the old world of sin, decay and death, changing everything, especially people.
The Lord is well and truly working with us:
Satan and his entourage of accusers, deceivers and murderers no longer act with impunity.
Evil is shattered. What seemed impossible to break – sin and all of its addiction – is confronted by the Cross of Christ.
People are able to communicate truthfully. Distrust is confronted and put to bed. Relationships are renewed.
Profound healing of spirit, soul and body takes place.
The signs are potent.
Amen.
