What’s wrong with you?
200 words: Rediscovering awe at our Divine Visitor as we approach Corpus Christi
I visited Uganda a few years ago.
At the time, I oversaw the training and formation of future priests. Two of them came from Uganda, and so off we went to celebrate their ordinations in their home country.
The ordination took 3 hours and 40 minutes. It was simply terrific. Such faith. Such joy.
When I arrived in Kampala, I celebrated Mass at the Bishop’s House. There were a group of nuns present.
At the consecration, I raised up the sacred body of Christ. The nuns clapped.
I then raised up the precious blood of the Lord. The nuns clapped.
After Mass I said to one of the nuns, ‘What was all that clapping about?’
She responded:
What is wrong with you? A divine visitor has come among us, and he needs to be welcomed.
How utterly logical.
As you are no doubt aware, the Church teaches:
In the Blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch’ (CCC 1324).
This truth challenges us.
What is the extent of our love at Sunday Mass? And if we are daily Mass goers, what is the extent of our love?
Amen.
