John the Baptist proclaims Jesus as ‘Lamb of God,’ both suffering and triumphant:
He dies ‘at the moment the paschal lambs are slaughtered in the Temple,’ and as in Exodus 12:46, ‘not one bone of his will be broken’ (Henry Wansborough).
He rises ‘as a lamb that seemed to have been sacrificed’ (Revelation 5:6).
John and Jesus were cousins, yet John says:
I did not know him myself (John 1).
Seems odd until we realise:
No one can say Jesus is Lord except in the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12).
Experiencing the Holy Spirit. Bring it on!
Amen.
Odd indeed !!
He was born in the place that the unblemished lambs were raised for the temple Passover sacrifice!
