Exodus

Jesus is truly human. This truth was proclaimed last week:
Jesus was led by the Spirit through the wilderness, being tempted there by the devil for forty days (Luke 4).
Unlike ourselves, however, Jesus is without sin.
Jesus is truly divine. This is the truth proclaimed this week:
As Jesus prayed, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became brilliant as lightning (Luke 9).
Unlike ourselves, Jesus existed with his Father before time.
Matthew, Mark and Luke all proclaim the Transfiguration. Only Luke gives us insight into the actual conversation Jesus had with Moses and Elijah:
Suddenly there were two men there talking to Jesus; they were Moses and Elijah appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing (‘exodus’) which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem (Luke 9).
The Jews were liberated (‘exodus’) from slavery to the Egyptians by God.
Jesus goes through his exodus – passion, death and resurrection – liberating us from sin and death, but we must take note:
After being liberated, God led the Jewish people to Mount Sinai. There he gave them the Ten Commandments, telling them, ‘keep these, otherwise a worse form of slavery will fall upon you.’
Amen.
