Does anybody have a clue?
200 Words: To love her, look for her, watch for her, desire her, think about her, be on the alert for her (Wisdom 6).
Wisdom is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. Interestingly enough:
They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David and they complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them (CCC 1831).
We are encouraged:
To love her, look for her, watch for her, desire her, think about her, be on the alert for her (Wisdom 6).
What is wisdom? Does anybody have a clue?
God appears to King Solomon in a dream. Solomon responds:
Give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so that I may discern between good and evil (1 Kings 3).
Meanwhile, the Book of Wisdom – compiled just a few years before Jesus walked the earth – has a slightly different take on it:
The justice and mercy go hand in hand with God, leading us to repentance (cf. Wisdom 12).
If we think about these two very helpful insights, from two different traditions within the bible itself, how might we construct a definition of wisdom?
Try my definition. See what you think:
Wisdom is thinking and feeling about things, events and people the way God thinks and feels about things, event and people.
Amen.
Thank you for a wonderful reflection Fr. Tony.
I suspect that wisdom is most often born of self-surrender in the same manner Jesus did on the journey to crucifixion. The wisdom in “thy will be done” is all we need to self-transcendence and ever-lasting life (wisdom).
A beautiful teaching, thankyou Fr Tony
