Baptise Cucumbers in Vinegar
200 Words: The Trinity answers two deep and conflicting human fears – loneliness and loss of identity (Evangelium, 14).
An ancient remedy stipulates how to make pickles – baptise cucumbers in vinegar.
The word baptise means ‘to immerse.’ Christians either used existing words or created new ones to describe the mysteries of faith.
Take note of the image:
Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations. Baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you (Matthew 28).
People are to be immersed into the teaching of Christ and immersed into the waters of baptism, so much so, that we can truly say we are immersed into Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God is a mutual God, a Community of Persons. This extraordinary reality has tremendous practical implications in our ordinary and everyday lives:
The Trinity answers two deep and conflicting human fears – loneliness and loss of identity (Evangelium, 14).
The three persons in God – Father, Son, Holy Spirit – are distinct (no loss of identity), in love with each other (not alone).
Human beings, created in the image and likeness of God, are called:
To know and discover who we are, and to express our love consistently.
Amen.
